About the Work

The stretchers for the paintings are custom built with round transitions from the face of the painting to the depth of the frame. The exact dimensions involve fractions, as follows:

at first, following 35 1/2 x 43 3 3/4
it is true, however diptych 41 1/2 x 51 1/2
to sit quietly, because 29 3/4 x 24 3/4

we are, indeed 31 x 34 3⁄4

enough, and without 39 x 30

Texture and blind drawing form the counterpoint to the rigorous order underlying the composition in these paintings. A blind drawing is generated with closed eyes and based on the memory of shapes and feelings. Blind drawings are incised into the prepared surface, revealing the dark underpainting. All paintings in this series incorporate blind drawing, except numbers three and eight. The medium for this series is acrylic on canvas.

Where do the titles of the paintings come from? At the time I was working on this series, I was reading Kenneth Clark’s book on Leonardo da Vinci. The titles of the paintings are quotes randomly taken from this book, the only constant being the comma.
